In keeping with the season, I chose to go with the obvious colours for this Christmas Star quilt block, but that should not inhibit you from choosing any colour scheme that suits you. It is just a beautiful star block.
This quilt block is for those quilters who are ready to move on to a more challenging choice. There is nothing difficult in this block, it just contains lots of cut pieces. This then, makes for more seam allowances that you must make sure to sew with precise seams. This will ensure that your block goes together perfectly because the seams will match up with each other.
Half square triangles are plentiful in this block and the quarter square triangle cut pieces are used to make a patch is that is underused — (in my opinion) — and that patch is known as the three quarter square triangle patch. It is comprised of three triangles to make the square — two of those triangles are quarter square triangle pieces and a half square triangle finishes off the square. These patches flank the centre square and form the inner star.
