I thought it would be nice to feature a quilt block for Valentine’s Day that was not a heart. This Cupid’s Arrow Point block fills the bill nicely.
This quilt block features several of the patches that you might not use on a regular basis — the quarter square triangle patch as well as the square in a square patch. For good measure there are also flying geese units in this block as well.
The construction is done first in “chunks” and then sewn in rows as an uneven nine patch to make the sewing a bit easier (in my opinion). Due to the number of cut pieces, I have given you the instructions to make a larger sized block (15″ finished size) as well as a favourite size of 10″ block.
The two sample quilts illustrated give two very different looks, just by adding sashing strips to one quilt and the other has the blocks set diagonally. Either choice will make a wonderful heirloom — and — a special quilt for your Valentine.
