The Formal Frame quilt block reminded me a little of another block that I featured, called Folded Corners. Each of these blocks gives the appearance of a fabric piece being folded down and thereby revealing the “underside” of that fabric.
This quilt block is a simple nine patch featuring only squares, rectangles and one pieced patch — the flying geese unit. So, this is a good choice for a beginner quilter and is different than the usual selections when you first begin your quiltmaking journey.
The two sample quilts illustrated are both set on point, but give entirely different results in the final products.
